The Co-operative has awarded Quail Digital a contract to install its checkout communications system into 121 of its larger supermarkets in the UK.
Checkout supervisors wearing headsets now receive pre-recorded voice messages from keypads at the till alerting them to specific assistance requests. Having tested the concept in several stores during 2006 and 2007, the analysis clearly showed that the Quail Digital Checkout Comms system helped reduce queue time at the tills significantly.
The time savings are being made elsewhere too. The system has a range that covers the whole store enabling colleagues in the warehouse, on the sales floor and around the checkouts to communicate freely contributing to improving customer service levels.
Quail Digital CEO Tom Downes commented: "The Co-op identified the opportunity very early on, and have been meticulous in analysing the time saving and efficiency contribution Quail Digital can make to the stores and their customers. I think there'll be some anticipation as the system rolls out to the stores later this year, and we're delighted to be providing the solution to the Co-op."
